Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
The Wikimedia Commons Bridge ("the Application", "we", "our"), hosted on Wikimedia Toolforge at https://bridge.toolforge.org/, is an open-source tool designed to facilitate the curation and publication of user-selected photos from Google Photos to Wikimedia Commons under open licenses. We value your privacy and are committed to protecting any information processed while using our service.
2. Google API Data Access & Scopes
The Application integrates with Google API Services, specifically utilizing the official Google Photos Picker API (OAuth Scope: https://www.googleapis.com/auth/photospicker.mediaitems.readonly).
3. How Information Is Used
Information retrieved via Google APIs is used strictly for the following purposes:
- Photo Selection & Display: Displaying high-resolution previews in your active browser session while you curate metadata (captions, categories, descriptions).
- Direct Media Streaming: Transferring binary photo streams directly to the MediaWiki / Wikimedia Commons API upon your explicit command ("Publish").
- EXIF Date Extraction: Reading photo creation timestamps to automatically suggest accurate publication dates for Wikimedia Commons metadata.
4. Data Retention and Storage
- No Persistent Media Storage: Photos are processed in memory during transfer. We do not write or store your photos on intermediate server disks.
- Session Tokens: OAuth 2.0 authentication tokens are securely persisted in transient session storage solely to execute requests on your behalf while you are logged in. Logging out destroys the active session.
- No Third-Party Sharing or Sale: We do not sell, rent, trade, or share user data or Google API data with any third parties or advertising networks.
5. Compliance with Google Limited Use Policy
The Application's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
6. Public Disclosure on Wikimedia Commons
When you choose to upload a photo to Wikimedia Commons, the media file and associated metadata (captions, descriptions, licenses, author credits) become publicly available on Wikimedia Commons under the open license you selected (e.g., CC BY-SA 4.0 or CC0 1.0) in accordance with Wikimedia policies.
7. Revoking Access & Contact
You can revoke the Application's access to your Google Account at any time via Google Account Third-party apps & services settings.
